The Federation of Italian Medical‐Scientific Societies (FISM), through its President Prof. Loreto Gesualdo, has formally informed the Head of the Civil Protection Department, Dr. Fabio Ciciliano, of the full willingness of the Italian medical‐scientific community to assist with any health support activities that may be needed in response to the current emergency in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. This institutional communication follows numerous offers of support already received by the Federation from its member scientific societies, which have expressed readiness to provide professional expertise, specialist experience and organizational capacity to support any initiatives the Italian authorities deem appropriate. FISM represents approximately 250 accredited medical‐scientific societies and encompasses the full spectrum of clinical and health specialties in Italy, forming one of the largest networks of scientific and professional expertise in the healthcare field.
“The Federation,” says FISM President Prof. Loreto Gesualdo, “considers it a duty to make the knowledge and professionalism of its scientific societies available to public institutions. The many spontaneous offers we are receiving testify to the strong spirit of solidarity within the Italian medical‐scientific community. For this reason, we have formally communicated our availability to the Civil Protection Department, hoping for institutional coordination that will effectively value and direct the professional resources offered.” In the note sent to the Civil Protection Department, FISM stressed the importance of operational coordination with the competent institutional bodies so that the voluntary offers from the scientific societies can be channeled in an orderly, effective way and aligned with any needs that may arise.
To ensure proper coordination of any potential health and scientific activities, the Federation has appointed Dr. Piero Paolini, President of the Italian Emergency Medical Society (SIEMS), as the designated contact for operational relations with the competent authorities, and is available for any further clarifications that may be useful. FISM reaffirms its commitment to supporting international health solidarity initiatives and reiterates its readiness to contribute, through the network of its federated scientific societies, to any activities the national institutions decide to undertake.
