Messico, terremoto di magnitudo 7.3 a largo coste del Chiapas: rischio tsunami

A magnitude 7.3 earthquake was recorded today, Friday, July 17, off the coast of Chiapas, Mexico, according to the United States Geological Survey, which had initially reported a magnitude of 7.4.

The tremor’s epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers in the Puerto Madero area, a Pacific port town about 13 kilometers from the border with Guatemala, and it prompted a tsunami warning.

No immediate reports were made following the earthquake, President Claudia Sheinbaum said, adding that the navy recommended staying away from beaches for the next six hours due to the tsunami risk. “Authorities at all three levels of government are conducting inspections across the territory to assess possible structural impacts and coordinate preventive measures,” she wrote on X.
