Cina, frana a Chongqing: almeno 8 morti e 34 dispersi

A landslide struck Pengshui County in the Chongqing municipality of China, killing at least eight people and leaving 34 missing. State broadcaster CCTV reported the collapse occurred at about 9:10 a.m. local time (3:10 a.m. in Italy), affecting a residential and commercial area at the foot of a mountain. More than 800 rescuers were deployed in emergency operations; 18 people who had been trapped were pulled from the rubble, but eight of them were later declared dead.

Chinese President Xi Jinping instructed authorities to speed up investigations into the cause of the disaster and to “identify and eliminate risks of geological disasters and other potential hazards.” Local officials described the area as steep and unpredictable, with unstable rock remaining on the slopes. The central government has allocated 50 million yuan (over 7 million euros) to support rescue efforts and assist affected residents. The incident comes less than two weeks after another landslide in northwestern Gansu province, where 21 of the 33 people involved died.
