What was meant to be an ordinary Sunday behind the wheel of a Ferrari worth more than €300,000 ended with a 296 wrecked at the side of the M602 in Salford, Greater Manchester. The driver was uninjured; the Ferrari was not.

The accident occurred on Sunday 30 August when the driver lost control of the supercar on wet road surfaces. The result was severe: the hood destroyed, much of the front end badly deformed, one front wheel bent and the other completely detached.

Greater Manchester Police released images of the wreck, accompanying the photo with a blunt caption: “Unfortunately, there is one less Ferrari 296 in the world this morning.” According to police, the driver lost control of the vehicle because the road was wet.

Officers therefore advised motorists to adjust their speed and driving style to match the condition of the road. It may sound obvious, but the warning applies even when driving a Ferrari that costs hundreds of thousands of euros. The 296 is a supercar with more than 800 hp and is not designed for slow driving. On wet roads, however, power and performance require even greater caution.

The good news is that there were no injuries in the accident. For the driver, then, only a big scare.
