The hackers who targeted Manchester Airport — one of three airports hit by a cyberattack yesterday alongside London Stansted and East Midlands — are demanding a ransom in exchange for returning the data they stole, the Manchester Evening News reports. The attack is said to have exposed data relating to about 8.7 million passengers.

Manchester Airports Group reportedly refused to pay and is following guidance from the relevant authorities. The group behind the attack is known to MAG and to officials, but its identity has not been publicly disclosed. The Manchester Evening News has learned that the same, already identified group is believed to be responsible for other similar cyberattacks earlier this year against companies and organisations across different sectors and countries.
