Not only New York’s mayor Zohran Mamdani. London mayor Sadiq Khan has also said he would have Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested if he came to the city.

“Anyone accused of genocide must face justice,” Khan told Channel 4 News, adding that he would cooperate with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham to “enforce the law” should Netanyahu visit London. Khan added: “Those who commit genocide are not welcome in London.”

Mamdani in recent days said he intended to seek the prime minister’s arrest upon his arrival in New York in September to attend the United Nations General Assembly. “I believe Prime Minister Netanyahu should be tried at The Hague,” the New York mayor said, and he later acknowledged that his administration does not have the legal authority to arrest the prime minister if he came to the city, while urging the federal government to execute the arrest warrant issued by the ICC: “The city of New York cannot arrest Benjamin Netanyahu but the federal government can: I call on it to join the International Criminal Court and carry out the arrest warrant.”
