Family of Francesca Albanese sues Trump administration

The plaintiffs are the husband of the UN special rapporteur for the Palestinians, Massimiliano Cali, and their daughter. Bondi, Bessent and Rubio are also named.

The family of the UN special rapporteur for the Palestinians, Francesca Albanese, has filed a lawsuit against U.S. President Donald Trump and members of his administration over sanctions imposed on Albanese, the Times of Israel reports. The plaintiffs are Albanese’s husband, Massimiliano Cali, and their daughter. Also named are U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Albanese, long accused of antisemitism and extremist rhetoric against Israel, was sanctioned by the Trump administration last year for an alleged “political and economic war” against the United States and Israel.

In recent weeks France and Germany have called for the UN special rapporteur’s resignation over her remarks about Israel and a “common enemy of humanity” system made in the presence of a Hamas official and Iran’s foreign minister, while the spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Stephane Dujarric, said that “‘we do not agree with much of what she says‘ and that ‘I would not use the terms she is using to describe the situation.'”

“Everything that has been said about me is false and defamatory,” Albanese replied to calls for her resignation, saying that “aside from France, Germany and Italy I continue to receive institutional recognition” for the “850 days spent documenting acts of genocide.”
