S&D MEP to Adnkronos after AfD and Die Linke victories in regional elections: “No more endless action plans and attacks on other parties. Citizens want clear messages, credible commitment and passion”

“Instead of endless action plans, it is essential to concentrate on key issues and consistently communicate credible solutions, without getting bogged down in attacks on other parties. This is what democratic parties must offer now.” Birgit Sippel, an MEP of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) and member of the S&D group, says to Adnkronos, commenting on yesterday’s election results in the Länder of Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and their implications for the EU.

The ballot produced victories for the radical left and the far right, respectively, but “despite all their differences” both “demonstrate one thing above all: in times of change and uncertainty, citizens want clear messages, credible commitment and passion,” Sippel notes.
