13-year-old kills nine in Turkey middle school shooting

There are also 13 injured, three in critical condition. The suspected attacker is reported to have taken his own life.

The updated toll from the second school shooting in Turkey in two days is nine dead and 13 injured, six of them in intensive care and three in critical condition. Today, April 15, a 13-year-old student opened fire at a middle school in the city of Kahramanmaras, in central Turkey – Aysel Calik Middle School in the Onikisubat district. Among the victims are at least three students and one teacher.

According to the Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah, the suspected attacker is believed to be a student at the school and reportedly died by suicide after the attack, during which he is said to have used five firearms. Education Minister Yusuf Tekin is en route to the area.

The news comes a day after the shooting at a high school in Sanliurfa, not far from Kahramanmaras. That earlier incident left 16 injured, including ten students. The attacker, who had previously attended the school, later took his own life.
