Kallas says no change to Aspides mandate over Iran war

The EU High Representative admits, at the end of the Foreign Affairs Council, that “there is no appetite” among ministers for changes

Among the foreign ministers of EU countries “there was no appetite to change the mandate of the Aspides mission” to allow it to operate in the Strait of Hormuz to restore freedom of navigation, currently hindered by Iran following the attack by Israel and the United States. At least “for now.” This was explained by High Representative Kaja Kallas at the conclusion of the EU Council in Brussels. “No one wants to actively enter this war,” she added, saying EU states prefer to pursue diplomatic avenues to try to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.
