Warborn welcomes Burnham’s openness to rejoining the EU, says MEP to Adnkronos: “Greater single market access must be matched by closer alignment with our rules”

“We welcome any move by the United Kingdom toward a closer relationship with the EU, an important economic and security partner,” Jörgen Warborn, a Swedish EPP MEP and member of the European Parliament’s delegation to the EU–UK Partnership Assembly, tells Adnkronos. Commenting on Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s openness to a possible return to the EU, Warborn says such rapprochement “is in the interest of both sides” at a time when “we are trying to build resilient supply chains with trusted partners.” However, the MEP adds that greater access to the EU’s single market “must go hand in hand with greater alignment to our rules.”
