“Whoever wins the race for artificial intelligence will win everything.” Former President Donald Trump weighed in on the current AI debate following the warning issued by Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, who had called for a slowdown in model development. Speaking to reporters at the Irish Open during his visit to Ireland, Trump said he does not want to slow the AI sector, where the United States is competing with China.

Trump on competition with China in AI

“We are ahead of China in artificial intelligence; we are the most advanced country in the world. And frankly, I want it to stay that way, because whoever wins in AI wins,” Trump said.

He added that the U.S. has a good relationship with China and that they will get along. Responding to a question about reports that Beijing provided Iran with satellite images of the U.S. base in Jordan struck on July 17, killing three U.S. service members, he said he believes China has been “very fair to us in recent years.”

“War in Iran? It could end with the Midterm elections”

The former president also commented on two ongoing conflicts: the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the tensions involving Iran.

He said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “has to do one thing. He needs to stop hitting fuel refineries in Russia.” According to Trump, those strikes “are causing a diesel shortage. This is not the fault of the Middle East. It’s because of what is happening between Russia and Ukraine.” On the Middle East front, he said Tehran is “eager to reach an agreement” and that the conflict could end before or shortly after the Midterm elections. He added he is not concerned about Gulf countries talking with Iran, saying “that is up to them.”
