The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso of the People’s Party, said today that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s policy on “uncontrolled immigration” also attacks the European Union and criticized “the treatment given to Italians” arriving in Spain. Ayuso spoke at a press conference in Villa del Prado, where she went to assess the impact of wildfires in the Sierra Oeste on agricultural land.

“Spain’s poor international reputation will continue to grow, because Pedro Sánchez is unable to defend our borders,” Ayuso said, also asking “why Morocco does not take care of its children, its minors and its young people.”

Addressing Italians, who were subject to checks upon entering Spain after Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had earlier implemented similar measures affecting Spain, she said the regional government does not share “the policies of this government. Even less,” she added, “the decision to isolate us from the world’s leading powers, starting with our sister nations.”

She also expressed her support for the people of Ceuta, who are “suffering because of an unexpected situation” and on which “no action is being taken.” She said they “are not alone” and that Madrid will “support them wherever possible. Let the people of Ceuta know, I repeat, that they are not alone,” Ayuso concluded.
