In a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump said that many countries-especially those affected by what he described as Iran’s attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz-will send warships, in cooperation with the United States, to keep the strait open and secure. He added that he “hopes” they do so. Trump also claimed that the United States has already destroyed 100% of Iran’s military capability, but acknowledged that Iran could still deploy a drone or two, drop a mine, or fire a short-range missile somewhere along or within the waterway despite its defeats.

Trump listed China, France, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and other nations as those affected by what he called “this artificial limit,” and said they should send ships to the area so the Strait of Hormuz would no longer be threatened by “a nation that has been totally decapitated.” He added that, meanwhile, the United States would relentlessly bomb the coast and continue sinking Iranian boats and ships. “One way or another,” he said, “we will soon make the Strait of Hormuz open, safe and free.”
