A woman managed to move to Australia by selling clothes on Vinted. In England, Beth Hackman sold more than 600 items on the popular second‐hand clothing app, earning over £3,000 — a sum that covered a flight to Australia and a month’s accommodation in Sydney, allowing her to start a new life there.

Beth Hackman lives in Windsor, Berkshire. She did not expect to make that much when she began using Vinted, but as she sold items the total grew: sportswear, a smart suit belonging to her brother, and branded trainers that sold for around £200.

In the end the total reached about £3,000, enough to pay for the trip and initial living expenses as she began working in Australia as a physiotherapist. “I had accumulated too many things and hated that a lot of it was fast fashion,” Hackman told the Daily Mail. “Moving to Australia is a dream I’ve had for a long time.”

“Actually, shortly before I left I ended up selling all my shoes, so I was left with only gym and running shoes and maybe one random pair of heels,” she revealed. “I’d say I sold at least 600 items, many of which had simply been stuffed in my wardrobe. I would wholeheartedly recommend that anyone saving for an important life goal declutter their home. People don’t realise how much they could earn.”

Hackman added that she believes many people have become excessive consumers and that a number of her friends own what she called “obscene amounts” of clothes they rarely wear. Now she aims to shop less and prefers second‐hand purchases — the same approach that helped her achieve her goal.
