French police foiled today, Saturday 28 March, an attack on Bank of America’s headquarters in Paris and arrested a man who was about to carry it out. The broadcaster Bfmtv reported the incident, while the national anti-terror prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for “attempted arson or another dangerous act in connection with a terrorist enterprise.” Authorities are also investigating “the manufacture of an incendiary or explosive device in relation to a terrorist enterprise,” “possession and transport of an incendiary or explosive device with the intent to cause serious damage, in relation to a terrorist enterprise,” and “membership in a terrorist organization.”
Interior Minister: “Link between foiled attack and war with Iran”
There is a “link” between the foiled attack on Bank of America’s Paris headquarters and the instability that has followed in the Middle East after the Israeli-American military operation against Iran, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said in an interview with Bfmtv. He added that “this case recalls similar actions that occurred in other European countries,” citing the Netherlands. “I draw a parallel with the operations carried out in nearby countries that were successful,” which were followed by “claims of responsibility by a small group that referenced the conflict,” Nunez said.
