Fraport Traffic Figures – September and First Nine Months 2017

– Frankfurt Airport posts new daily passenger record- Fraport’s Group airports perform strongly

FRA/gk-rap – In September 2017, some 6.2 million passengers traveled through Frankfurt Airport (FRA) – an increase of 5.4 percent on the previous year. This was the first time that FRA exceeded the six-million-passenger mark in a September month. With a total of 225,801 passengers served on September 29, 2017, a new daily passenger record was also reached.

Driven by the ongoing strong growth of the global economy, FRA’s cargo throughput (airfreight + airmail) continued to rise for the tenth consecutive month, increasing by 4.1 percent to 187,708 metric tons in September 2017.

Aircraft movements increased by 3.6 percent to 43,479 takeoffs and landings in September 2017, while accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) climbed 1.8 percent to just under 2.7 million metric tons – with both indicators posting new September records.

During the January-to-September 2017 period, Frankfurt Airport served nearly 49 million passengers – representing an increase of 4.6 percent year-on-year. Cargo volumes grew by 4.7 percent to some 1.7 million metric tons in the first nine months of the year. With 357,453 takeoffs and landings, aircraft movements increased slightly by 1.1 percent in the reporting period. Accumulated MTOWs remained level on the previous year, reaching almost 22.6 million metric tons.

Across the Group, airports in Fraport’s international portfolio performed positively in the first three quarters of 2017. Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia’s capital city recorded traffic growth of 20.4 percent to some 1.3 million passengers (September 2017: up 18.9 percent to 180,380 passengers). Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru welcomed almost 15.3 million passengers, an increase of 9.0 percent year-on-year (September 2017: up 10.9 percent to nearly 1.8 million passengers). At Fraport’s Twin Star airports in Varna (VAR) and Burgas (BOJ) on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, combined traffic increased by 6.4 percent to about 4.7 million passengers (September 2017: up 6.7 percent to 738,265 passengers).

Fraport’s 14 Greek regional airports saw overall traffic advance by 10.5 percent in the first nine months of 2017, reaching almost 23.9 million passengers (September 2017: up 11.4 percent to approximately 4.2 million passengers). During the month of September 2017, the busiest of the 14 Greek airports included Mykonos (JMK), with passenger growth of 20.0 percent; Kos (KGS) with an increase of 19.8 percent; and Mytilene (MJT) on the island of Lesvos, up 18.6 percent.

In the January-to-September 2017 period, Antalya Airport (AYT) in Turkey recorded a 43.7 percent increase to more than 21.7 million passengers (September 2017: up 50.4 percent to almost 3.8 million passengers). Hanover Airport (HAJ) in northern Germany registered 8.4 percent growth in the same period to about 4.5 million passengers (September 2017: up 12.5 percent to 659,300 passengers). According to preliminary figures, Pulkovo Airport (LED) in St. Petersburg, Russia, experienced growth of 23.9 percent, welcoming some 12.6 million passengers in the first nine months of 2017 (September 2017: up 20.9 percent to around 1.7 million passengers). At China’s Xi’an Airport (XIY), traffic advanced by 13.1 percent to over 31.2 million passengers in the first three quarters of 2017 (September 2017: up 10.8 percent to some 3.6 million passengers).
