The Eighth Wise Global Summit Takes Place in Doha, Qatar, November 14-16, 2017

– 2,000 participants from 100 countries to gather to re-imagine education at a time of disruption and economic uncertainty

Some of the world’s most creative leaders in the fields of education, technology, social entrepreneurship, global development, media and philanthropy will convene in Doha, Qatar on November 14-16 for the eighth World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE).

Up to 2,000 participants from 100 countries are expected to attend the biennial global Summit which, since its establishment in 2009, has become a premier international gathering on the future of education. The theme of WISE 2017, “Co-Exist, Co-Create: Learning to Live and Work Together”, sparks debate around the education challenges in times of global disruption and economic uncertainty.

Central to discussions will be the role of education in a post-truth world, with sessions focusing on media literacy; artificial intelligence and virtual reality; social entrepreneurship; design thinking and nudging for right education choices, among others.

Confirmed speakers include: Prof Sebastien Thrun, chairman and co-founder, Udacity and founder of Google X Labs (USA); Mr Fareed Zakaria, writer and columnist, CNN host (USA); Dr Armel Karboul, commissioner, International Commission on Financing Global Education Opportunity (Tunisia); Ms Wendy Kopp, CEO and co-founder, Teach for All (USA); Sir Michael Barber, founder and chairman, Delivery Associates (UK) and Ms Noella Coursaris Musunka, founder, Malaika (Democratic Republic of Congo).

The 2017 WISE Prize for Education Laureate will be announced at the opening of WISE on November 15. The Prize recognizes an individual or a team of up to six people for an outstanding, world-class contribution to education.

The Summit will also showcase projects championed by WISE all year round. These include the WISE Awards for high-impact education solutions; the WISE Accelerator, supporting promising edtech projects; the WISE Learners’ Voice, a mentorship program for young education leaders, and the WISE Research series of reports authored by experts from leading international institutions.

Peer learning will be at the heart of WISE, with the possibility to set up “Braindates”, a concept by e180 (Canada), allowing delegates to strike up knowledge-sharing conversations.
